Dance Hero still one of the quickest

Recording a slick time of 1:08.75 when winning the 2004 Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at just his third career start, no juvenile in the last 30 years has recorded a faster time.

Making his debut with a third in the Listed Breeders’ Plate behind Charge Forward (Red Ransom), the former Gai Waterhouse trained Dance Hero (Dance Hero-Gypsy Dancer, by Dance Floor) went on to win the Golden Slipper – Sires’ Produce Stakes – Champagne Stake Group 1 treble before winning the Gr1 Salinger Stakes down the Flemington straight a few years later at the age of 5.

Born and bred at Kerrie Tibbey’s Goodwood Farm, Dance Hero was sold for $120,000 to his trainer, going on to become the second of seven Golden Slipper trophies (so far) for the Champion trainer. Upon his retirement from his racetrack career which netted 10 wins and eight placed efforts from 33 starts and just shy of $4m in earnings, Dance Hero retired to Tibbey’s property where the gelding became a nanny, looking after the younger stock.

Spending his latter years sharing those duties with Texarcana, the dam of Gr1 winner and Gr1 producing sire Rebel Dane, the duo of ‘nannies’ have now been retired from those duties as they were becoming very ‘competitive’ with the younger horses.

Now 22 years of age, it is brilliant to see Dance Hero spending his days being looked after extremely well at his place of birth where he will continue to live out his days.
